5. Old Business
a. Working on getting grant funds, due July 30th.
b. Farming Opportunities Training and Outreach Grant Program discussed. Grant would provide funding for
outreach to disadvantaged groups in our community. Workshop held on July 17th 2023 to collectively
apply for a USDA grant was not successful.
c. Discussed using Charlotte County’s economic status to help acquire grant funding – deferred.
6. New Business
a. Funding for future projects will depend on the type of funding we receive and/or apply for.
b. NRCS will provide us with a preview of the Local Working Group Survey for local producers.
c. Sue to check with other Conservation Districts to learn about funding mechanisms they have used.
d. The Board voted unanimously to appoint Patrick Maley to fill Seat 3. Patrick will serve as the Treasurer.
7. Partners and Staff Reports:
a. Activities of Natural Resources Conservation Service – Jeremy Ansel gave an update on funding of
programs under EQIP and CSP. There was $9.9M funded for Ian Hurricane Recovery; 8 EQIP contracts
for Charlotte County worth $650K with 8 EQIP deferred for 2024. There was no CSP obligated for
Charlotte County for 2023.
b. Activities of Southwest Florida Water Management District – none
c. Activities of Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services – none
d. Activities of Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences – none
e. Activities of the South Florida Water Management District – none
f. Activities of Charlotte County Water Quality Management Program – none
